Watermelon Coasters

Ashley Ziman of Create Crochet gives us this free crochet pattern for cute watermelon-inspired crochet coasters. These make a great addition to any summer picnic or party. You could make watermelon punch to go along with your watermelon coasters! Work the same crochet pattern using a larger yarn and hook (perhaps even multi-stranded yarn) and you could create a set of placemats to match the coasters.

Supplies:

  • Worsted weight yarn in pink/red, white, and  green
  • 5mm hook (H-8)
  • Small amount of black for the seeds

In pink or red:

Round 1: Ch 4, 10 dc into first ch and ss into top of first dc (10)

Round 2: Ch 3, 2 dc into each around (20)

Round 3: Ch 3, *2 dc into next stitch, 1 dc in next. Repeat around (30). Finish off pink/red. Attach white to any stitch.

In white:

Round 4: Ch 1, 2 sc into stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches. Repeat around (40). Finish off white and attach green to any stitch.

In green:

Round 5: Ch 3, 2 sc into stitch, 1 sc in next 3 stitched. Repeat around (50). Finish off.

Sew in all ends and embroider seeds around the second row.

My coasters came out to 5” in diameter (yours may very slightly due to different stitch tensions). They should be large enough for most glasses and mugs.
